HAPPY FALL! -- For spelling this week I had the students each write a spelling word on a pumpkin and color it. We then hung them up to remind us of our spelling words all week.

This week we've been busy! In math we wrapped up our chapter on subtraction and next will begin to look at multiplication. In reading and writing we are continuing to build our skills -- through writing journals, AR tests and reading comprehensive strategies. For this next quarter (2nd Quarter) our GOAL for AR quizzes is 5 points by the end of the quarter. My hope is that everyone reaches this goal! In science we got the chance to sing our rock song to a little audience (Mr. Jernberg & Mrs. Fox & Miss Fox joined) The kids loved singing it for them!

* Next week is a short week for us. We will have no Bible memory verse or spelling words.

Important dates:

- Thursday (Nov. 3) = Parent-Teacher Conference (NO SCHOOL for students).Conferences will be on Thursday and I am looking forward to meeting with you! The kids are bringing home an information sheet today that you can talk about together and set some goals for next quarter. If you remember to bring it to the conference that would be great!

- Friday (Nov. 4) = Field trip to Okinawa World! Parents are welcome to attend and the entrance fee for parents is 990 yen. The children's fee will be paid by the school. Please let me know if you are thinking of joining us. I have heard of a couple parents so far that may be interested in coming. There is room on the bus for 4 parents per classroom. The students will need to bring a sack lunch and water to drink.

- Saturday (Nov. 12) = Walkathon!! It is not too late to sign up! Your child can still bring in money and the permission slip but may not get the t-shirt in time for the walk. Even if you did not sign up you can still come join in the fun and support the various projects that the funds will be used for on the OCSI campus! An information sheet is coming home today.

PICTURES! - I sent home school pictures on Thursday --- so hopefully your child showed them to you if you ordered them :)

POSTER CONTEST - The kids are bringing home a poster today to decorate for a poster contest for our upcoming Holiday Market (set up by the PTF). The winner from each class will get a free cup of hot chocolate at the bazaar. More details are available in their Friday folder.
