Hello October

What a nice short & sweet week we had!

I pray that all of you were safe during our recent typhoon. For me it was my first typhoon -- a lot of hype for not too much of a storm, but I am thankful there were no serious damages!

But welcome to the season of Fall!

This week in reading we have been reading, reading, reading! We are continuing to work on this important skill through reading to self, as well as reading with a partner. Our students have also thought about and discussed goals with me; things they personally want to work on in their reading.

In writing we are learning about the writing process. We have just finished the planning stage for our personal narratives. We have brainstormed, picked a story / event to write about (something that has happened to us), and planned out what we will write. Next week our students will continue this process by adding more detail and begin writing up a rough draft of their personal narratives.

In math we are finishing up our 2nd chapter on addition...we have learned about different patterns and properties in addition. Next step is subtraction!

Next week in both science and social studies we will be wrapping up our units on plants and rivers. There is a test on Tuesday in both subjects.

Looking to next week:

*Remember, NO SCHOOL on Monday (October 10). It is a teacher work day / professional development day.
